In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. Purpose
Reporting to the Manager Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, the Principal Electrical Engineering coordinates the general description of scope and the basis of design required for electrical engineering. All must be done in conformance to the BHP Charter, the BHP Business Requirements, Code of Conduct, and relevant statutory obligations and in compliance with BHP Group Level Documents and Business Level Documents, with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility, and sustainable development.

- Engineering contractor - Electrical Mining Lead
- Engineering contractor - Engineering Electrical Manager
- Engineering contractor – Other Discipline Leads (Instrumentation & Controls, Mechanical, Piping, Civil, Structural, Architectural, and Process)

About the Role
Sustainable Development, HSEC (Health, Safety, Environment & Community), and Business Conduct:
- Ensure an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development, including development of initiatives to improve the HSEC profile of the project
- Provide leadership for Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls in respect to safe systems of work
- Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct, and relevant statutory obligations
- Recommends and incorporates any changes required to identify safety or risk improvements, capital efficiency, or productivity improvements
Position Specifics:
- Implements Electrical Engineering strategy, plans, processes, and systems for the project
- Represent BHP’s interest and vision during the development of the Jansen Stage 1 engineering
- Participate in the Prevention through Design, Strategic Procurement, and data-centric design programs
- Ensure project designs are aligned with project objectives and developed on time and budget
- Provide engineering contractor supervision (including field support) and technical assurance for electrical designs (High and Low Voltage) of Jansen Stage 1, with a focus on Shaft, hoist, and Underground areas
- Accountable to lead the development of cost effective, operable, maintainable, and supportable electrical solutions that address business problems and integrate with existing and future business systems
Measures of Success:
- Accountable for adherence to the process of costing, budgeting, and forecasting in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure project requirements (safety, schedule, budget, people, quality, risk) are consistently conveyed
- Compliance with business level processes.
- Electrical engineering performed by third parties is meets operational, risk, quality, and regulatory requirements
About You
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Licensed, as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan (APEGS) is desirable
- Post-graduate qualifications are well regarded
Experience
- 10-15 years of experience in project engineering, working as part of Engineering Procurement & Construction Management or Owner’s teams
- Industry experience in mining (surfaces, shafts and underground), utilities, or manufacturing
- Potash mining and processing design experience desirable
- Mine development, underground operation, and maintenance
- Experience overseeing medium-sized teams, creating development plans, and mentoring
- Experience in the use and application of Smartplant tools desirable
