Job description

Job title
Software Development and Electrical Engineering Manager

Position Description
Maritime Applied Physics Corporation (MAPC) is a Baltimore based engineering, research, development, and production company focused on marine technologies including unmanned and manned aerial, surface, and underwater vehicles, renewable energy, structures, and machinery systems, in-house fabrication, prototyping, production, and much more. We have a current opening for an experienced Software Development and Electrical Engineering Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical and programmatic execution of MAPC’s electrical, electronics, and controls programs. This includes driving the technical approach and the organization of work. The candidate will lead hardware, software and automation development teams, provide the control and management of programmatic costs and schedules, and provide staff selection and mentorship. The manager will have access to other mid-level and senior level engineering and programmatic staff needed to ensure project success. Our work environment is energetic, collaborative, and offers a healthy work-life balance.
Experience with DoD processes, software environments and tools preferred, but not required.
The work will be performed in our Baltimore Facility in Curtis Bay, Maryland.
Duties:
• Lead a team of software and electrical engineers using software automation tools and personnel management methodologies
• Participate in a team that designs, develops, integrates, and tests hardware and software for multiple projects simultaneously
• Prepare hardware and software engineering design documentation
• Prepare and present engineering material within the peer review process and to customers as appropriate
• Look for gaps and synergies in personnel and software toolsets, and implement plans to maximize efficiency and capabilities
Qualifications:
• Must be a U.S Citizen
• BS or MS in CS, CE, Software, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
• 4+ years of experience in system controls or automation
• Proficient C and Linux and willing to adapt to using languages and development environments as dictated by the needs of projects
• Ability to read, understand, and modify electrical schematics, state diagrams, and bills of material
• Ability to size and select electrical and electronic components for implementation in systems and subsystems
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Good organizational skills and a drive to follow through tasks to completion
• Possess or have the ability to obtain DoD secret clearance
The employee in this position will be responsible for performing the following tasks as a minimum-
Technical Execution:
• Solves complex technical problems, with advice and guidance from other engineers when necessary.
• Is capable of solving straightforward technical problems independently
• Has the ability to move freely between first principles analysis and complex software “canned” solution analysis. Has a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each and knows when and where to use them.
• Has developed an intuition of when a technical problem is converging in a positive spiral and knows when to change approach for better results.
Technical Project Management:
• Plans, reviews and controls the execution of all levels of project elements including technical execution, scope control, budgets, and schedules.
• Coordinates project-level work efforts within MAPC including directing engineers, interfacing with technical personnel for the fabrication, assembly, and testing of hardware as necessary.
• Works with project sponsor representatives to meet their expectations and to limit scope creep and other external factors that lead to uncompensated efforts.
• Works with sponsors to develop follow on and new efforts that are mutually beneficial.
Future work initiatives:
• Coordinates with other Program Managers to pursue projects that are strategic in producing improved MAPC capabilities including technical expertise and manufacturing and research facilities.
• Leads teams in proposal writing and contract negotiation efforts.
• Develops technical approaches and budget and schedule estimates for solicitations under consideration.
MAPC is seeking a long-term employee who is looking for a career growth path with the company and is willing to take on a diverse set of engineering challenges. The job offers opportunities to hone your design skills and expand them into additional technical areas, develop more advanced modeling and analysis skills, and be part of a fast-moving, energetic, closely-knit team.
Pay
Salary Range from $99,000.00 to $165,000.00, commensurate with experience and abilities.
