Join the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) as a global Facility Manager.  Our 200+ Facility Managers located throughout the world keep U.S. Embassies and Consulates maintained and fully operational. Foreign Service Facility Managers are the professional facilities, technical, and operations experts at U.S. diplomatic missions.  They contribute to OBO’s mission to provide safe, secure, functional, and resilient facilities supporting the advancement of U.S. foreign policy objectives abroad.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 20 years old to apply and at least 21 years old to be appointed. By law, all career candidates must be appointed to the Foreign Service prior to the month in which they reach age 60, except for preference-eligible veterans. Applicants must also be available for worldwide service and be able to obtain all required security, medical, and suitability clearances.


  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years of Specialized Experience OR
  • Master’s Degree with 2 years of Specialized Experience OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facility Management or Facility Engineering with no experience (please refer to the vacancy announcement for a description of specialized experience)
