Seattle-based Oscilla Power, Inc. (OPI) has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join a small but growing team working on the commercialization of marine energy for defense and offshore power applications. OPI is developing technology to harness energy from ocean waves at different scales and is executing projects aimed at demonstrating and validating its technology.
Oscilla Power’s systems involve the conversion of physical motion to useful electric power for applications ranging from small-scale battery recharging to offshore power sources. We are looking for a team member who is interested in helping to develop novel electrical/electronics solutions for these energy systems. This position will involve the continued development and improvement of electrical/electronics solutions for OPI’s wave energy systems and will ultimately involve taking ownership of specific projects in this area. It will involve both the development of innovative concepts and translating those ideas into schematics and test-bench prototypes. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively work with engineers from other disciplines to help solve interesting problems, as well as be an individual contributor leading the effort in development of electrical/electronics components and subsystems.
The successful candidate will be expected to work within a small team and manage project activities towards meeting specific design objectives. A positive attitude to proactively identify challenges and develop innovative solutions that can make a substantive impact on system performance is a must.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development of novel electrical/electronic components for marine energy systems at different scales.
Develop and maintain electrical documentation, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, electrical schematics, logic diagrams, and panel layouts.
Oversee the programming and configuration of PLCs, Motor Drives (VFDs), Generators, and motion control systems by internal staff and external contractors, project specifications, and timelines.
Act as the internal subject matter expert for the electrical systems relating to Oscilla Power’s technology implementation, including, but not exclusively limited to, PLCs, generators, motors, system integration, sensors, and electro-mechanical devices.
Interface with other engineers and technicians to successfully install various projects and lead troubleshooting efforts.
Required skills & experience:
Applicant must be a US citizen or US Permanent Resident.
Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or related field.
Creative thinking, with a proven track record of developing novel electrical/electronics solutions
5+ years of experience in a relevant position such as autonomous systems, industrial automation, motion control systems, with a knowledge of power systems. Experience requirements can be relaxed for higher degrees.
Demonstrated expertise with PLCs, VFDs, and motion control systems.
Proficiency in creating and interpreting electrical one-line and three-line diagrams.
Strong understanding of MATLAB Simulink and Simscape for power systems and grid integration modeling.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a small, focused project team.
Preferred skills:
Experience working on autonomous systems, especially systems designed for the marine environment, would be advantageous.
