As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette, you will help maintain and operate the systems that provide heat and hot water to the facility. This position operates and maintains boiler plant systems while overseeing inmate workers to ensure safe and efficient facility operations. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Boiler Operation: Maintain efficient operation of high temperature hot water and steam boilers under normal and emergency conditions
- System Monitoring: Read gauges, meters, and sensing devices and perform scheduled and non-routine equipment maintenance
- Auxiliary Equipment: Operate and maintain pumps, fans, control systems, and related support equipment
- Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and maintain logs and inventories for water treatment supplies
- Inmate Oversight: Monitor inmate workers, maintain safety, conduct searches, and ensure tool and supply control
- Daily Communication: Report concerns to supervisors and complete required paperwork and inventories
Hours 2 pm – 10 pm Monday – Friday or Tuesday – Saturday. (Shift differential of 1.25 per hour)
Requirements
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
